The first allied jet fighter. Its combat use in WWII was limited to intercepting V-1's. The Meteor was of conventional layout, with engines in mid-wing nacelles, and it was capable of accepting many types of engine. The flexible design allowed a long development history after the war, and the Meteor introduced jet engines to many airforces.

The Gloster Meteor was a hugely successful pioneering jet fighter and trainer with over 3,500 units being built and serving with the air forces of sixteen countries. Aside from it's various front line role's the Meteor has had a very important role as a research and trials aircraft. In 1946 the worlds first successful live ejection seat trial was made from a Meteor by the Martin Baker company.
